Editorial Review
Culinary whiz Paul McGivern has recently opened his second restaurant, Manx, in the new cruise ship terminal at Portside Wharf. Surrounded by expensive residential apartments and boutiques offering everything from clothes and shoes to nuts and chai tea, Portside Wharf is the perfect place to enjoy exceptional food overlooking the Brisbane River. Manx offers intimate indoor dining, complete with private curtains, or stunning alfresco dining with views of the river. The cuisine is modern European with Italian and French influence, and the menu offers a diverse range of creative dishes.Paul's success at his previous restaurant, Restaurant Rapide in Camp Hill, is a testament to his skill and creativity in the kitchen, and his experience has certainly paid off with Manx reflecting his development as a restaurateur. The attention to detail in the dining room, and front of house professionalism perfectly complements the culinary experience offered at Manx. For starters try the pan-seared scallops with pork belly and Vietnamese salad, featuring deliciously plump, fresh scallops. Follow with the roasted duck breast with spiced carrot puree, green beans, cumin and Ligurian olives. If you have room for dessert then the dark chocolate souffle with prune and Armagnac ice-cream is to die for.

Darren Blake: The anticpation of dinner at Manx last Saturday was high as I have had many great meals at Rapide, read fantastic reviews and always keen to support local talent. Manx just didn't do it for me on the night. I selected dishes, risotto and duck breast, that had been reviewed overzealously which left me wondering what the fuss was for. All was forgiven though with the caramelised pear tart which convinced me to give Manx a second chance. Service was punctual & professional. (22 December 2006)
